The bit group started in 1986 with its first company - bit schulungscenter - in the area of IT training. In 1993, the area of management training was added to its product portfolio. This resulted in the foundation of a new company in 1996 - bit management.

The bit group had been deeply involved in research on alternative methods of learning & training since 1994 and had successfully realized several training projects through e-Learning. The specialization in e-Learning and multimedia led to a co-operation with Siemens PSE Austria. Due to this long-term co-operation, Siemens and bit decided to found bit media e-Learning solution in 2000. In less than 5 years bit media captured the market for alternative teaching and learning methods nationally as well as internationally.

In 2002 Academy NOW, the largest provider of e-Learning for private customers in the German speaking area, became a subsidiary of thebit group.

The Cleaner Production Center (CPC) Austria is the latest new business area of the bit group. Together with Grazer Stadtwerke AG, the bit group provides a professional information source and a national and international platform for “cleaner production” issues.

In 2007 bit media became the first official Microsoft partner for customized e-Learning solutions in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

In the last decades the bit group has expanded its operations extensively through the foundation of foreign subsidiaries and the implementation of international projects in the areas of human resource development, education, vocational training, curricula development, consulting and e-Learning. Beside subsidiaries in Germany and Switzerland, the company owns subsidiaries in Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania and Croatia.

With this broad range of services, large product portfolio and high level of flexibility, the bit group has established itself as an innovative and effective partner. An impressive 500.000 training days per year, more than 15.000 e-Learning course participants and more than 250.000 e-Learning licensees have made the bit group into the largest private training provider in Austria, employing more than 180 employees and 300 freelancers.

Since the beginning of July 2007 the bit group is ISO 9001:2000 and ÖKOPROFIT® (ECOlogical PROject for Integrated Environmental Technology) certified.
